Title: "Human Sensing and Context Discovery"

Abstract: Humans are the most complex entities we interact with and surprisingly one of the least well understood by us. In this talk, I would elaborate a few case studies on we study how sensor data can be used to better understand human parameters of location, activity and physiology. We also study how the underlying parameters can be used to make possible complex inferences. Our aim is to study humans in their natural environment and hence ubiquitous sensing paradigm is adopted. We use sensors on personal devices as well as sensors deployed in the environment to achieve our objective.

Biography: Avik Ghose received his M.Sc. In the year 1999. He has more than 17 years of experience in embedded systems, middle-ware and protocol design. He has worked on an array of embedded devices and platforms. He is currently employed at TCS Research and Innovation. His passion is to research on human sensing for wellness and behaviour modelling. He has more than 15 papers published in this subject and has also several granted patents in the field.

Title: "Thermal Image Processing in Medical Domain"

Abstract: Thermal imaging is a non-invasive, non-contact and rapid system. It reports temperature through measuring infrared radiation emanated by an object/ material surface including human body. Automated thermal imaging system involves thermal camera equipped with infrared detectors, signal processing unit and image acquisition system supported by computer. It is elaborated in wide domain of applications. Extensive focus is directed to the thermal imaging in the medical domain especially diabetes and breast cancer detection. This talk would provide the main concept and the different applications of thermal imaging in Medical domain. It explores and analyses few developmental works which has been carried out at CDAC, Kolkata using thermal imaging techniques. It is an effective screening tool for diabetes and breast cancer prediction. The outcome of the developmental works justify that thermography can be considered a complementary tool to detect such diseases.
